DEL: Munich misses return to the top against Wolfsburg

Master Red Bull Munich missed his return to the top of the standings in the DEL. In the reopening of last year’s final round, the Bavarian team was defeated on 24. Grizzlys Wolfsburg with 2:5 (1:0,0:4,1:1). With 49 points Munich remains second behind the Nuremberg Ice Tigers (51), Wolfsburg is fourth with 43 points after their fourth victory in a row.

The Eisbären Berlin were defeated by the Dusseldorf EC after penalty shooting 3:4 (2:0,1:2,0:1,0:1,0:1). John Henrion turned the decisive penalty. The Polar Bears would have been leaders in the standings if they had won after regular time. Berlin came in third with 49 points, and DEG (33) was ninth in the series after its fourth success. Nuremberg had won 4:2 against the ERC Ingolstadt on Thursday.

The Cologne sharks also lost their second game under new coach Peter Draisaitl at the Schwenninger Wild Wings after 47 minutes with a goal from Damien Fleury 0:1 (0:0,0:0,0,0:1). Cologne (31) is now tenth, Schwenningen (39) fifth. Straubing Tigers, who did not have a captain Sandro Schönberger, lost 2:5 (1:2,0:2,1:1) to Adler Mannheim.

After three previous defeats, the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven celebrated another victory at the 2:1 (1:0,1:0,0,0:1) against the Augsburger Panther and are now in eighth place with 36 points. The Krefeld penguins lost 1:5 (1:0,0:2,0:3) in the seventh place Iserlohn Roosters.

In Munich, Jason Jaffray (8th) put the hosts in the lead before coach Pavel Gross’s team laid the foundation for the victory with goals from Gerrit Fauser (24th/33rd), Kamil Kreps (25th) and Tyson Mulock (29th) in the second period. In the last third, Munich international Brooks Macek (42nd) and Wolfsburg’s Tyler Haskins (43rd) met for the final score.

For the polar bears Florian Busch (11th/22nd) and Nicholas Petersen (17th) were successful. Eduard Lewandowski (22nd), Henrion (32nd) and Darryl Boyce (45th) met for DEG.
