On the day after Felix Neureuther’s rupture of the cruciate ligament and Viktoria Rebensburg’s second win of the season, Marina Wallner from Inzell took the first step towards participating in the Olympic Games. At 32. Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) won the 23-year-old’s World Cup triumph in the Killington slalom in the US state of Vermont.

With the second best result of her career, she met half the standard for Pyeongchang. Wallner was only 0.03 seconds short of eighth place and the direct qualification.

Shiffrin drove in a superior manner to her first victory in the Olympic Winter. After taking second place (+0.67 seconds) behind Rebensburg in the giant slalom (+0.67 seconds), the overall World Cup winner, Olympic champion and world champion in slalom achieved her usual dominant performance. Shiffrin won superior to the Slovakian Petra Vlhova (+1.64 seconds), who had beaten Shiffrin in the first season slalom. Third place went to Bernadette Schild (Austria/+2.67 seconds).

Lena Dürr (Germering) and Christina Geiger (Oberstdorf) came in 16th and 18th with a gap of more than 4.5 seconds each. Dürr has already fulfilled the Olympic norm after finishing sixth in the first season slalom in Levi, Finland. Geiger started for the first time this winter.
