David Griffin was General Manager of Cleveland Cavaliers for many years. However, the contract was not renewed in summer 2017. After Griffin’s departure, the cavs Isaiah Thomas endured to hand over Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics in return. Griffin doubts that the trade was a good one for the Cavs.
“In the future, this trade will not look good for the Cavs,”Griffin said in Sirius XM,”Kyrie will be an outstanding player. From the point of view of the social media, everyone’s gonna talk about how good he is.”
However, the cavs had little room for manoeuvre in the summer. Irving pushed a trade and LeBron James has not yet decided whether he will still be part of the Cleveland Cavaliers after the season. That’s why Griffin also understands his successor, Coby Altman,”No one knows what will happen in the long run. They’ll try to win the title while LeBron is still there.”
As the cards were dealt out, it was a very good deal for the Cavs,”because one thing is clear: In Cleveland, only titles count,” If the Cavs get another ring, then it doesn’t matter what the trade looks like in the future,”Griffin is sure.
At the moment, however, the Cavs have not yet been able to profit from the trade. Thomas is still injured while Jae Crowder is still looking for his form. Center Ante Zizic has hardly played a role so far.
