Handball: THW wins Derby thanks to Wolff

The THW Kiel has returned to the Handball Champions League after a messed-up season with a bang.

After a world-class performance by national goalkeeper Andreas Wolff, the record champion won the derby at his favourite arch-rivals SG Flensburg-Handewitt 33:30 (16:15) and took a big step towards the last sixteen.

Flensburg, on the other hand, was defeated in the derby after nine consecutive wins. In addition, coach Maik Machulla’s team missed out on scoring points with front runner Paris Saint Germain. Only the group leader reaches the quarter-finals directly.

In front of more than 6,000 spectators in the sold-out Flens-Arena, both teams fought a duel at eye level, which ended with Wolff in the end with 17 spectacular parades,”We missed too many free chances, that was all,”said Flensburg’s Holger Glandorf.

I’m very proud of the boys and very happy with their performance,”said THW coach Alfred Gislason at Sky:” In our difficult situation I’m happy, proud and grateful “Matchwinner Wolff remained modest:” I’m glad I was able to help the team.
