MLB: Texas Rangers engage pitcher Doug Fister

The Texas Rangers have signed a contract with free agent pitcher Doug Fister. The right-hander signs for one year with the option of another.

Fister recently played for the Red Sox and is guaranteed four million dollars for the deal. 3.5 million of them are his base salary for 2018, while 500,000 dollars act as a buyout if the team does not pull the option for 2019.

If the option were drawn, he would have 4.5 million in the season after next season. However, performance bonuses could increase the value of the option year to up to 7 million.

The Rangers will be the seventh MLB team for Fister. Previously, he has played for the Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals, Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox since 2011.

In his career he is 82-85 with a 3.68 ERA over 1356 1/3 Big League innings. In 2017 he was 5-9 with a 4.88 ERA in 90 1/3 innings after the Red Sox had signed him up during the season.
