The Memphis Grizzlies lost nine games in a row and dismissed head coach David Fizdale on Monday. However, there should not be a rebuild, as General Manager Chris Wallace said to ESPN.
“We have no intention of trading Marc,”Wallace said.”We never seriously considered it. We never spoke to anyone about it on the phone. That’s not gonna happen. This whole equation here isn’t just about Gasol, but Mike Conley when he’s fit again.”
The Grizzlies (7-13) announced on Wednesday that Point Guard, who had been injured by the Achilles tendon, is expected back in two to three weeks’ time,”Then we have two boys in their respective positions among the league elite,”Wallace said,”and they both have a lot more in the tank.”
Although Memphis is in bad shape at the moment due to injuries, Wallace has not yet written off the playoffs – on the contrary:”We continue to go full speed ahead. We were in the playoffs for seven years in a row. If we are healthy, we have a team that is more athletic, versatile and more potent in the offensive than in recent years,”Wallace said.
“There’s 62 games left. We believe in this team. And we think we’ll all be well soon,”the GM went on to say,”Our expectation is that we’ll always be a playoff team.”
