MLB: New York Yankee manager search has ended

The New York Yankees have completed their executive search. It remains with the six candidates who had interviews, as General Manager Brian Cashman said on Friday. There will be no further talks.

Aaron Boone, Rob Thomson, Hensley Meulens, Carlos Beltran, Eric Wedge and Chris Woodward introduced themselves to the Yankees and one of them will be the next manager of the team and successor to Joe Girardi, whose contract has not been renewed.

Cashman spoke to reporters during abseiling training in Stamford/Connecicut. The Yankees-GM ropes itself away from a high-rise building in New York every year as part of the Lights and Heights event. Cashman said there will be no second round of further interviews. Instead, he will soon make a recommendation to Yankee team owner Hal Steinbrenner.

Cash also stated that he had spoken to former superstar Alex Rodriguez to get his opinion. However, he did not have the impression that A-Rod himself was interested in the manager job.

According to media reports, Boone, Meulens and Beltran in particular presented themselves strongly in the interviews, while Thomson, who has been working for the Yankees for 28 years, would probably be the safest option.
