MLB: Petit returns to the Bay Area

Yusmeiro Petit and Oakland Athletics have signed a two-year $10 million contract. This was confirmed by the Relief Pitchers agent on Thursday.

Until the right-hander’s signature, all that is missing is a medical check scheduled for next week. The 33-year-old is currently still in Venezuela, his home country.

Petit has been in the league for ten years and last year played for the Los Angeles Angels, for which he had pulled 91 1/3 innings in 60 games. He came on 101 strikeouts at only 18 walks and had a 2.76 ERA.

In detail, the contract provides for an annual salary of 3.5 million dollars in 2018 as well as 5.5 million dollars in 2019. In addition, there is an option of another $5.5 million for 2020 with a buyout of one million if the option is not exercised.

Petit was already pitching for the San Francisco Giants in the Bay Area from 2012 to 2015 and won the World Series with them in 2012 and 2014.
