The German combiners around world champion Johannes Rydzek have to catch up again in the fourth individual competition of the Olympic season. Rydzek (Oberstdorf) was the best DSV athlete at 131.0 m in 14th place in the 1994 Olympic jumping event.
With a gap of 1:03 minutes behind the leading Norwegian Espen Andersen, he enters the final 10km cross-country skiing race at 2pm in the LIVETICKER.
“The jump didn’t quite fit. The starting position is quite tidy, but not optimal. There’s still something left on the difficult track,”said Rydzek, who could take over the yellow jersey of the overall World Cup leader with a victory.
Behind Rydzek, Terence Weber (Geyer) is 18th (+1:10) second best German. The five-time overall World Cup winner Eric Frenzel (Oberwiesenthal) has no chance of winning the race after a jump to 127.0 m from 26th place (+1:33) and still behind Björn Kircheisen (Johanngeorgenstadt) to 23rd (+1:17).
Fabian Rießle (Breitnau), who was defeated by the Norwegian Jörgen Graabak on Saturday as the final runner of the German relay in the sprint for the victory, is still looking for his jump form and has to finish 38th with a 2:10 minute gap to the cross-country ski run.
Junior World Champion Vinzenz Geiger (Oberstdorf), who had delivered a brilliant performance at his relay debut in the World Cup on Saturday, had a raven-black day, failed to finish 46th in qualifying and missed the competition.
