DEL: Tabula rasa: Adler Mannheim parted ways with trainer and manager

The Adler Mannheim have put their entire sporting management in front of the door. After a disappointing season so far, the seven-time champions parted on Monday with coach Sean Simpson, co-trainer Colin Müller and manager Teal Fowler. Bill Stewart will take over the position on the bank with immediate effect, the former NHL pro Jochen Hecht will remain a co-trainer.

“After the disappointing appearances and the most recent results, we are committed to a new beginning in the field of sporting leadership,”said Daniel Hopp, Managing Director of Adler, explaining the reasons for the separation. The eagles are ranked seventh in the table after 28 games, slightly more than halfway through the season with 43 points, which only qualifies them for pre-play-offs.

The former master trainer Stewart from Mannheim will take over the position of coach for the time being only until the end of the season. The 60-year-old Italo-Canadian had lately stood behind the gang at the Straubing Tigers, but had been released there in October. Stewart was trainer in Mannheim from 2000 to 2004, under him the Adler won the championship in 2001.

With Fowler, a man with many years of sporting responsibility has to go to Mannheim. In his time as co-trainer, transition coach and manager, the Adler won the championship title in 2007 and 2015.
