The DCV men’s team suffered a setback at the Olympic qualification in Pilsen, Czech Republic, in the fight for the ticket to the Olympic Winter Games.
The team around Skip Alexander Baumann (Rastatt) lost on Thursday Italy 4:6. In the table, the DCV men fell back to fourth place with two victories and two defeats.
With three victories after four games, Italy, China and Denmark lead the way. One of the three teams has to oust the German team on the last three matchdays to keep the chance of winning one of the last two Olympic tickets. In a play-off on Saturday, the first of the preliminary round against the second player plays the first ticket. The loser of the duel gets another chance against the third player.
The next opponent of the German men will be Denmark on Friday morning (9:00 a. m.) and Russia on Friday evening (19:30). Finland will be waiting for the finals on Saturday (13.30).
On Thursday evening, the German women’s team also lost their third match in the fourth game 9:10 against Italy. The team around Skip Daniela Jentsch is now in the seventh place. A win against the victorious last place Finland on Friday (14.00) is mandatory, the top three have two more victories each time.
