Handball: Kretzschmar on women’s handball:”A little bit of a bag of wonder”.

For the former handball star Stefan Kretzschmar (44) the women’s national team has so far been “a little bit of a bag of wonder”.

In an interview with the broadcasting broadcaster Sport1, the former international said:”The Germans are perfectly capable of beating the big players. But we also had a hard time against Serbia, even though we were the clear superior team in the first ten minutes.”

In general, the women’s handball for Kretzschmar is “more unpredictable than men’s handball”. Qualitatively there is “a difference”, men’s handball is much more athletic,”but women’s handball is quite attractive if it is played without any technical flaws”.

The former world-class left-winger is full of praise for national coach Michael Biegler’s team:”The girls are selling well, they appear very sympathetic and show a good team spirit to the outside world:” The semi-finals are the minimum goal. If we achieve this, we can speak of success,”said Kretzschmar.

The World Championships in Germany as a whole are “trend-setting” for women’s handball in Germany:”We have a great opportunity and good ratings with the World Cup at home – the halls are also well attended. Perhaps many girls now want to be like Emily Bölk or Angie Geschke,”Kretzschmar says.
