NFL: Shazier transferred to Pittsburgh after spinal injury

Ryan Shazier of the Pittsburgh Steelers was transferred to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center after his spinal injury from the Monday Night Game of Week 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals. There, the linebacker will undergo further examinations.

“We would like to thank the doctors and caregivers at UC Health’s University of Cincinnati Medical Center once again for their excellent care for Ryan,” said the Steelers in a statement.

Shazier was taken to Pittsburgh on Wednesday by helicopter. Meanwhile, his family was also flown to Pittsburgh by private jet.

Shazier had been injured in a tackle attempt and was then taken away without movement in the legs. During the night from Tuesday to Tuesday, the doctors carried out various tests, after which the team announced that an operation “currently” is not necessary.

After the initial diagnosis, it was assumed that the spinal cord had been crushed, but more detailed information is still missing.
