Olympic Games 2018: IOC publishes reasoned opinion in the Subkov case

The former bobsleigh driver Alexander Subkow, suspended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was concretely incriminated in the detailed reasons for the verdict published on Thursday. Among other things, it states that two rehearsals of the 43-year-old, who was deprived of the two Olympic victories of Sochi in the two- and four-man bobsleigh, were manipulated.

In addition, the leniency witness Grigory Rodchenkov explained that Subkow had used banned substances “for a long time”. Rodchenkow also helped the team to escape an unannounced doping control. In addition, the team had left out a planned competition before the winter games in Sochi in order to be able to prepare for the games with doping.

Subkov is now president of the Russian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation. In the case of the cross-country skiing star Alexander Legkov, who was also banned for life for the Olympic Games, the IOC had given the reasons for the decision of the so-called Oswald Commission on 27 January 2007. November.

According to the 50-page ruling in the Subkow case, scratches were found on both sample containers due to an opening. In addition, a sample had a salt concentration that was “considerably higher” than expected in a healthy person. In addition, the name Subkow appears on the so-called “Duchess list”, which lists athletes who have received performance-enhancing substances under state control according to Rodchenkow.

Subkov is one of the 25 Russian athletes excluded by the IOC for life in all functions of the Olympic Games. In the meantime, a total of 22 athletes, including Subkow, have filed a complaint with the International Sports Court of Justice, CAS.

As with Legkov, the Oswald Commission has clearly acknowledged that the fraud system described by WADA Special Investigator McLaren (exchange or exchange of information) is a violation of the law. Manipulation of Russian doping samples) during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi. She also classified Rodchenkow as a “credible” witness.
