MLB: Cubs engage Pitcher Tyler Chatwood from Rockies

Chicago Cubs signed pitcher tyler chatwood. The right-hander signs for three years and comes from the Colorado Rockies.

Officially, no details on the contract have yet been released, but ESPN reports that the total amount of the deal is estimated to be $38 million.

Theo Epstein, the President of Baseball Operations at Cubs, called Chatwood an “overly talented right-hander who is approaching the peak of his career” and added:”He has great facilities. We think his best days are still ahead of him. We take him into an environment where we think he can achieve consistency with all his pitches and better exploit his strengths.”

Chatwood was 8-15 with a 4.69 ERA in his final season in Colorado. The 15-fifteen defeats were the most common in the National League. One reason for his unimpressive numbers was probably Coors Field, which he won’t miss:”To always have the same routine, to be able to work on things and to let the ball do the same thing all the time, no matter if you’re away or at home, that’s going to be pretty nice” Coors Field in Denver is not a popular environment for pitcher due to the thin mountain air in the “Mile High City”.

Chatwood primarily gives Cubs security in rotation after John Lackey and Jake Arrieta are both Free Agents and it is not foreseeable whether one or both of them will stay.
