Jacqueline Lölling celebrated the second victory of the season in the Skeleton World Cup in Winterberg. The 22-year-old won by a quarter of a second ahead of the Canadian Elisabeth Vathje (+0.24) and the Russian Jelena Nikitina (+0.25).
Lölling extended her lead in the overall standings with the victory two weeks after her success in Whistler, Canada.
Vice World Champion Tina Hermann (Königssee) dropped from third to fifth place in the weaker second round. Anna Fernstädt (Berchtesgaden) also made it into the top 10 again in ninth place.
Vice World Champion Axel Jungk (Oberbärenburg) did not exceed sixth place in the victory of the South Korean Yun Sungbin in front of world champion and overall World Cup winner Martins Dukurs (Latvia).
The resident of Oberhof Christopher Grotheer finished tenth, Alexander Gassner disappointed on his home track with rank 16. Due to adverse weather conditions, the second run was cancelled.
The Russian Nikitina, winner of the second World Cup race in Park City/USA, was allowed to start again after her suspension from Whistler in Winterberg. The bobsleigh and skeleton federation IBSF had lifted the temporary suspension against the athlete until the International Olympic Committee (IOC) received the written grounds for the suspension of the Olympic Games.
The IOC had punished Nikitina and four other Russian skeletonis with a lifelong olympic ban for being involved in the state doping scandal.
