Alpine Skiing: Fritz Dopfer gets Olympic ticket in Val d’ Isere

Ski racer Fritz Dopfer (Garmisch) has qualified for the Olympic Games at the World Cup slalom in Val d’ Isere, France. The 2015 World Cup runner-up, who had to pause for a year due to a broken leg, finished seventh in heavy snowfall.

Thus, with his second place this winter he doubled the standard (once in the first eight or twice in the first 15).

In extremely difficult external conditions, Marcel Hirscher (Austria) improved from eighth to first place in the second round and secured his second win of the season. The overall World Cup winner won ahead of Henrik Kristoffersen (Norway) and Andre Myhrer (Sweden).

In addition to Dopfer, three other Germans, some of them with very high starting numbers, also scored points – but despite good performances they missed a place among the top 15, which would have been worth at least half the standard for the Olympics: Dominik Stehle (Obermaiselstein) finished 18th, Philipp Schmid (Oberstaufen) 25th and David Ketterer (Schwenningen) 26th.
