Biathlon: German relay team wins Norway second place

The German biathlon relay team took second place in the wind lottery in Hochfilzen, Austria. Erik Lesser (Frankenhain), Benedikt Doll (Breitnau), Arnd Peiffer (Clausthal-Zellerfeld) and Simon Schempp (Uhingen) had to admit defeat over 4×7.5 km Norway with a gap of just under two minutes.

After all, however, they won the German Ski Association (DSV) the first podium of the weekend.

The DSV team, which finished fourth at the World Championships in Hochfilzen in February in the same line-up, needed 17 reloaders in stormy conditions, the Norwegians only nine. They had renounced their stars Johannes Thingnes Bö, Emil Hegle Svendsen and Tarjei Bö. France came third without Dominator Martin Fourcade.

“It was very, very difficult to shoot and hit,”said Doll on ARD. One had to “somehow avoid the penalty round”, added Peiffer.
