Boxing: Unequal Mega-Fight in New York: Lomachenko beats Rigondeaux

Vasyl Lomachenko has clearly won the eagerly awaited Olympic champion’s duel against Guillermo Rigondeaux in New York (the fight in the Re-Live on DAZN). The Ukrainian defended his world champion title in super featherweight after the WBO version.

In Madison Square Garden, 29-year-old Lomachenko dominated his eight-year-old opponent at will. After three laps, all three judges had the Olympic champion of London 2012 and Beijing 2008 clearly on their cards.

In the fourth round, Rigondeaux, who had previously been warned several times by the referee about foul play, had to give up because of an injury to the left hand.

“It’s not his weight class, so it’s not a big win for me,”Lomachenko said succinctly.

Rigondeaux, Olympic Champion in 2000 and 2004, had climbed two weight classes for the mega-fight. The Cuban himself holds the title of WBA in the superbantam weight.
