Marcel Hirscher from Salzburg celebrated his 47th birthday in the Val d’ Isere slalom on Sunday. Winner of the Alpine Skiing World Cup, celebrated his 21st victory. in a special slalom. After only eighth place after the first run, the 28-year-old won 39/100 seconds ahead of Henrik Kristoffersen from Norway and another hundredth ahead of Andre Myhrer from Sweden.
The Tyrolean halftime runner-up Michael Matt finished fourth (+0.55) and Carinthian Marco Schwarz from intermediate rank 28 with best time in the second run, ninth (1.16). Italy’s Stefano Gross, who took the lead after the first round, dropped back to sixth place (0.76). Kristoffersen took the lead in the overall World Cup, Hirscher is only eleven points behind second.
Hirscher is now seventh place in the eternal World Cup victory statistic for men and women, three victories behind Italy’s legend Alberto Tomba. The giant slalom third from Saturday or 17. of the Levi slalom in mid-November has now won again in both technical disciplines after his ankle fracture in August.
