NBA: Wizard owner lobbies for more draft rounds

The Washington Wizards will start next season with a new team in the G-League, the Capital City Go-Go. Wizards owner Ted Leonsis can imagine that the draft could be expanded in the future, as 27 teams will be competing in the G-League from 2018/19 onwards.

“I believe that in the future we will be working on the rules,”said Leonsis NBC Sports,”maybe there will be more drama rounds or you can sign a player directly from high school,” so the G-League could have a bigger role to play as talent could be developed there.

The NBA currently has the shortest draft with only two laps. The NHL and NFL on the other hand have seven laps, the MLB even 40. There were also times in the NBA when the draft was much lower. In the seventies there were ten laps before they were shortened. Since 1989 it is the two rounds, which still exist today.

We want the G-League to become the second best league in the world,”said Leonsis, adding that” in hockey, the AHL[development league under the NHL, NHL, n. b. c.] is the second best league in the world. d. second best league in the world. This should also be our goal for the G-League.”
