BBL: Oldenburg separates from Allen after controversy

The former German basketball champion EWE Baskets Oldenburg and Bryon Allen have agreed on a separation. The contract with the 25-year-old US-Guard was terminated after a dispute with coach Mladen Drijencic. Allen had changed to runner-up in the summer.

“Bryon is an outstanding athlete with great potential. But in professional sports it’s not much different from real life:”If you find that it doesn’t fit, it’s better to be honest with each other and draw a line,” said Drijencic.

Allen, with an average score of 16.3 points from fifth best throwers in the German Bundesliga and top scorer in Oldenburg, had clashed with the head coach last week and had been eliminated from the squad for the game at Telekom Baskets Bonn (68:90). Now the separation took place.

“It is very important to me to emphasize that we are friends and parting ways without resentment. Bryon is a good guy and has always behaved professionally,”says Srdjan Klaric, the sporting director of EWE Baskets.
