Handball: Denmark misses World Cup semi-final

Germany-Bezwinger Denmark has missed their entry into the semi-finals of the Women’s Handball World Championship.

The three-time Olympic gold medallist was defeated in the quarter-finals at the Arena Leipzig Sweden with 23:26 (11:13). Sweden will face ex-world champion France or Montenegro in the semi-finals on Tuesday evening in Hamburg.

The European Championship fourth place winner Denmark finished the medalists’ dreams of the German Handball Federation (DHB) with a 21:17 victory.

The Danes equalised their first half against Sweden, but the former European runners-up went down to 19:14 (43th) after the switch. Denmark narrowed to 22:24 (57th) but Sweden did not let the victory go unnoticed.
