The New York Jets are apparently on the brink of admitting an expensive, alleged mistake: according to consistent reports, defensive Lineman Muhammad Wilkerson is on the brink of extinction in New York after disappointing months.
Jets reporters Manish Mehta from the New York Daily News and Ralph Vacchiano from SNY report on this. Head coach Todd Bowles suspended Wilkerson for the game against New Orleans Saints on Sunday, allegedly after arriving “much too late”.
Several team-internal sources now report that there is “no chance” for Wilkerson to stay with the jets – which wouldn’t be cheap for Gang Green. In 2016, Wilkerson had signed a five-year contract for 86 million dollars, 53.5 million of which are guaranteed. If released in 2018, nine million dead cap would remain in the books.
If that’s the plan, New York Wilkerson could stay out of it for the rest of the season. If he were still in the squad on the third day of the new league year 2018, his salary of $16.75 million would be converted into a fully guaranteed salary by an injury guarantee.
Wilkerson was not only disappointed on the course this season, he is also a massive disappointment for the jets off the course. Instead of assuming the hoped-for role of a leader, he has repeatedly attracted attention in recent years with a lack of discipline – the current delay is only the most recent example of this.
