In the game against the Washington Wizards, LeBron James changed his shoe in the half-time break and switched to a model with golden letters saying “Equality”. One shoe in white, the other in black. The Cleveland Cavaliers superstar then explained the decision.
We all know where we are right now, and we all know who’s in office here,”James said to US President Donald Trump,”because the White House is only a mile from the Wizard Verizon Center.
“We Americans must understand that we all have the same rights, no matter what race or color we have. I think it’s important to keep this conversation going.”
James has often openly criticized Trump in the past and has reaffirmed this:”We Americans can’t let a person dictate how wonderful and powerful we as human beings can be; Equality means that we understand our rights, that we know what we stand for and what we can achieve as men and women, blacks and whites or Hispanics. This is a beautiful country, and we’ll never let anyone dictate what we stand for.”
James had already worn the’ Equality’ -model against Boston at the opening night, but it was completely in black. At the time, he said:”We know what we are going through as a nation and as a world. And I have a platform where I might be able to keep the conversation going. So why not?”
