The former Olympic fan Felix Neureuther has become a critic of the winter sports highlight:”Olympia is still a myth, but it is becoming more and more hollow and holey,”said the German alpine star in an interview with the news magazine stern.
He is “disillusioned”, the 33-year-old explained,”this flair, which has made the Winter Games so unique, is increasingly disappearing. This gigantism, ever more spectacular buildings, more and more disciplines and also the attempt to squeeze out more and more money – this has nothing to do with the idea of the Olympic Games” His wish to experience the Olympic Games again in Pyeongchang was therefore rather “head-controlled”.
Due to a rupture of the cruciate ligament, the World Championships third, which started promisingly into the Olympic season with a victory in Levi, Finland, will not be able to compete. In an interview with stern, Neureuther said he was accustomed to fighting:”I want to get back into the form in which I was before the rupture of the cruciate ligament,”he said,”and if I succeed, it will be difficult to beat me. I want to show them all again.”
In mid-December Neureuther underwent knee surgery in Innsbruck and was therefore out for the entire season. According to a medical prognosis, he will probably be able to resume skiing in six months’ time.
