NBA: Turkey: Public prosecutor’s office demands four years imprisonment for Kanter

Basketballer Enes Kanter is to be imprisoned in his home country Turkey for four years for a series of snide tweets about President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This is what the prosecutor’s office demands, according to information from the Anadolu news agency.

Kanter, who plays in the North American professional league for the New York Knicks, had called Erdogan among other things “Hitler of our millennium”.

Kanter had declared in May that he wanted to strive for US citizenship. In June his father Mehmet was arrested by Turkish authorities. Enes Kanter is a declared follower of the preacher Fethullah Gülen, who lives in exile in the United States.
