Handball: Sigurdsson stays with the lions until 2019

The Icelandic international Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson will continue to play for the German champion Rhein-Neckar Löwen next season. The club and the left-wing side opted for a contractually agreed option and extended the contract, which originally expired at the end of the season, until 30 June. June 2019.

“I feel very comfortable with my family in the region, so there was no reason at all to change anything, especially since I’m playing with the lions at an absolute top club, which wants to have a say in the awarding of the title next season,”said the 38-year-old.

“Gudjon has established himself as one of the top performers after his return to us,” said Oliver Roggisch, Sports Director,”so there was no question that we would like to have him on our team next year.

Sigurdsson had returned to the lions in 2016 from the Spanish club FC Barcelona. He had previously played for Mannheim from 2008 to 2011.
