The NBA Season 2017/18 is almost eight weeks old, and the voting for the All-Star Game 2018 is already underway. Before Christmas the fans can vote for their favorite player. SPOX tells you what you need to know about voting and the All-Star Game.
The All-Star Game 2018 will look the same, but different. While nothing changes much for the fans during the voting, the league announced in October that the format of the game will be changed.
In 2017 the team from the West won 192:182 against the East. MVP was Anthony Davis on domestic parquet. The All-Star Weekend took place in February 2017 in New Orleans.
From 21. December, fans can vote for their favourite in the NBA app and on nba. com. As always, twelve players per conference will be sent to the All-Star Game in February, 50 percent of whom will be chosen by the fans. In addition, 25 percent of the players are elected by the players from the NBA and a further 25 percent are elected by media representatives.
From 25. December can be then also over Social Media with Facebook and Twitter (Tweet, retweet or Reply), the Google search (“NBA vote all star” or “NBA vote team name”) and even over speech control via Amazon Alexa to be tuned then.
By 2017, in the All-Star Game, the twelve players with the most overall votes from their respective conference had to face each other. So the Eastern Conference team always played against the Western Conference.
This format was changed to the season 2017/18. From now on, the two players with the most votes in their conference will be the captains and may alternately choose the eight remaining starters – no matter which conference they belong to. Last year, for example, LeBron James and Stephen Curry would have been the captains. The respective head coaches then select a total of 14 reserve players, from which the captains can choose.
The squads for the All-Star Game will be playing on 25. January.
The All-Star Game is the highlight of a weekend full of All-Star Challenges every year. In 2018 the Rising Star Challenge will take place again, where the best young players of the league will compete against each other.
There will also be a three-point contest and a dark contest.
The All-Star Weekend takes place every year in a different city. In 2018, the NBA will be a guest at the Staples Center, home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers.
