Cycling: Jason Lowndes dies in training accident

Eight days after his 23rd birthday. The Australian cycling professional Jason Lowndes died in a training accident on his 80th birthday. He had collided with a car at an exit near his home town of Bendigo in Victoria (Australia). This was confirmed on Friday by the Australian Cycling Federation.

Lowndes drove for the Israel Cycling Academy and had joined the Continental team JLT Condor for the coming season. At the World Championships in Qatar last year, Lowndes finished sixth in the U23 title race on the street.
