Ski Alpin: Marcel Hirscher wins in Madonna’s hundredth thriller

It is and remains a phenomenon. Even on the piste, with which Marcel Hirscher cultivates a certain love-hate relationship, Austria’s ski ace shows the competition how to win a highly dramatic race despite mistakes.

Before the legendary night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy’s ski icon Alberto Tomba still sprinkled Marcel Hirscher with roses and predicted that he would be able to catch up with record winner Ingemar Stenmark. Tomba’s prediction is that two perfect slalom runs will take Tomba one step further: with a huge mistake Hirscher won only four hundredths ahead of Luca Aerni from Switzerland and five hundredths ahead of Henrik Kristoffersen.
