Johnny Manziel hasn’t given up football yet: Although he doesn’t seem to have a chance in the NFL any more, in the Canadian football league CFL it looks different: The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have already secured his rights, the league seems to agree in the meantime.
CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie announced on Thursday that the league is preparing to give Manziel the green light for a contract, provided the ex-browns quarterback continues to meet its requirements.
“The process leading to the approval of his eligibility to play has included: an independent expert who has assessed the incidents of violence against women, the judgment of a legal counsel and a direct interview between Mr. Manziel and the Commissioner. Beyond that, mr. Manziel meet several of the league’s requirements,”Ambrosie explained in a statement.
As a result of this process, the League is now ready to legitimise a treaty. This contract would then have to be negotiated between the Tiger-Cats and Manziel.
The 25-year-old came to Cleveland in 2014 as the hoped-for bringer of salvation, but numerous missteps away from the course turned it into a farce. Among other things, Manziel has been struggling with serious alcohol problems, and over the past few years he has been in the headlines primarily through parties. His last pass as a football professional dates back to the 2015 season. In two years, he only played eight games for Cleveland (two victories).
