The New York Jets do not change trainers – on the contrary: Head Coach Todd Bowles and Managing Director Mike Maccagnan received early contract renewals on Friday instead.
The team announced this shortly before the last matchday of the regular season. According to NFL network insider Ian Rapoport, both are two-year contract renewals. Both are thus under contract in New York up to and including 2020.
“Jets boss Christopher Johnson said in a statement,”We’re very pleased to extend Mike and Todd’s time here,”said Jets boss Christopher Johnson, who worked together during their time here and helped the organization build a foundation on which to grow. They identify and develop players. I think we’re on the right track.”
The decision to extend with both gives the jets “now” continuity and stability, while we try to develop this team further to achieve constant success. We still have a lot of work to do, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with both of them.”
The jets were considered to be the hottest contender for the Number 1 draft pick and possibly a 0-16 game time before the season after a dramatic sell-off. Instead, Gang Green was able to keep up in almost every game despite a talent deficit, especially the offense around Josh McCown and Robby Anderson inspired. However, it is still important to find the long-term quarterback of the future in New York.
