NFL: Cardinals-Quarterback Carson Palmer resigns

After head coach Bruce Arians announced his resignation on Monday, quarterback Carson Palmer followed suit on Tuesday. Palmer is also finishing his career.

Over the years, players of mine have ended their careers and I have always asked them how they knew that their time had come. The answer was almost always the same: you just know it. This moment is here for me. Why? Simple: I just know.”

Palmer continued:”When I entered the league, I was a 23-year-old child. I leave her as a 38-year-old husband and father of four children, with memories and experiences that I will cherish for the rest of my life. In no second did I take all this for granted or didn’t appreciate it. It’s a great privilege.”

Palmer’s career had an interesting development. As the No. 1 pick he had several very good years in Cincinnati, but left the Bengals in conflict. After two unsuccessful years with the Oakland Raiders he came to Arizona in 2013 together with Bruce Arians, where he experienced another spectacular career autumn.

The 2015 season stands out in particular when Arizona had one of the best downfield openers in recent years and the Cardinals only failed in the NFC Championship Game because of the Carolina Panthers. At the same time, however, Palmer had two injured seasons in Arizona, with only seven games left to play in the season just ended.

The routinist’s resignation leaves one of the offense trio in Arizona behind – Larry Fitzgerald. The receiver still had a very good season in 2017, but could decide that he doesn’t want to learn a new offense with a new quarterback. The cards are therefore facing a complete upheaval.
