NFL: Seahawks: Carroll points to Chancellor career end once again

In 2018, the Seattle Seahawks’ defenses are likely to be quite different: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed his previous statement on Tuesday that Kam Chancellor and Cliff Avril’s careers could actually be over.

At his ESPN radio show, Carroll reaffirmed his own statements. Avril and Chancellor, said Seattle’s head coach,”will have a hard time playing again. For both, the season ended prematurely due to neck injuries.

At his press conference a little later, Carroll added:”I cannot predict their future. I shouldn’t say more than,”I don’t know.” I don’t know what to tell you. Both boys are great people and great competitors. We would be very happy if they could move on. But I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Chancellor has been playing for the Seahawks since 2010, the 29-year-old has not played for any other NFL franchise. In Seattle, he has been standing at 606 tackles and twelve interceptions since then, his presence at the centre of the field and, above all, his interaction with safety colleague Earl Thomas have been the defining elements of the dominant Hawks Defense in recent years.

The future of Richard Sherman, who suffered an Achilles tendon rupture, is also uncertain, while Michael Bennett spoke openly about his departure after the end of the regular season. At the press conference, however, Carroll emphasized that Sherman’s rehab is going well, and there is no reason to assume that he is not fit for the 2018 season. However, there are always rumors that Thomas could possibly leave the team.
