The German champion Brose Bamberg finished the first round of the EuroLeague with the third defeat in a row.
In their last match of the year, Andrea Trinchieri’s team lost to Turkish record-breaking Turkish champion Anadolu Istanbul 58:69 (38:29) and continued their negative away trend.
Bamberg stayed in eleventh place after the ninth defeat in 15 games of the current tournament, missing out on the first eight to qualify for the quarter-finals. This means that since mid-November, the Upper Franconians have not been victorious outside the competition since mid-November.
Istanbul, on the other hand, celebrated their first victory under coach Ergin Ataman, who has only been in office for two weeks. Nevertheless, the Turks remain last with eleven defeats.
The guests had taken the lead at the end of the first quarter and gained 15 points in the meantime. But nine minutes to go, the Turkish team, led by former NBA pro Derrick Brown, took the wheel. With 21 points, the American Brown played a significant role in the fourth victory of the last position in the standings. Ricky Hickman scored the most points in Bamberg (10).
