Handball: Janke replaces Pieczkowski in preliminary EC squad

National coach Christian Prokop has announced the provisional line-up of the German national handball team for the European Championship in Croatia (12. till 28. January) at short notice. Maximilian Janke joined Niclas Pieczkowski’s squad at the start of the course in Stuttgart.

European champion Pieczkowski had to cancel his participation because of a shoulder injury “The injury is a pity for Niclas. We wish him a good healing process,”said Prokop:” Now we are happy to welcome Max to the national team.

Right-handed Janke, who plays for SC DHfK Leipzig like Pieczkowski, received the go-ahead from the Leipzig team physician after the complete healing of his adductor injury was confirmed in a control MRT.

Finn Lemke, who was still missing at the end of last year’s short course in Kamen due to bronchitis, also reported healthy and also travelled to Stuttgart.
