Ski jumping: Only one came through: an overview of the triple winners of the tour

In the history of the Four Hills Tournament Kamil Stoch is the tenth ski jumper to win three stage victories (Quali for the 4th time). Jumping in the LIVETICKER) – only Sven Hannawald could complete the “Grand Slam”. An overview of the triple winners.

Already in the second year of the tour’s history, Björnstad grabbed the spotless triumph. In Bischofshofen he lost against Austrian legend Sepp Bradl and his compatriot Arnfinn Bergmann. However, he did not want to miss out on the overall victory any more – it should remain the only noteworthy successes in Björnstad’s career.

Three times tour winner, two times world champion, one time Olympic champion: Recknagel won almost everything, but for the “Grand Slam” it wasn’t enough for the East German ski-jumping icon despite five day victories in a row. Recknagel won the last two jumps of the tour in 1957/58 and the first three in 1958/59. Then, however, he fell in the first round of Bischofshofen, the best distance of the day in the second jump was only 15th place, but the overall victory was not in danger.

When the GDR aces around Recknagel were not allowed to take part in the tour at the behest of their sport leaders, because the GDR flag and anthem had been declared illegal on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bolkart seized the favor of the hour and marched through the first three jumps. As with Recknagel in the previous year, the series in Bischofshofen took fourth place, but Bolkart, like his GDR rival, won the tour.

Also Engan’s collection of success stretched from tour to world championship to Olympic Games, but he also failed to make it through – fourth place was taken in Bischofshofen at the end. Nevertheless, the overall lead in the overall standings was opulent with 51 points.

Nobody had ever been so close to the four-time victory as Wirkola had been before: the great Norwegian in Bischofshofen was second behind his Czech rival Jiri Raska – he had not jumped the overall triumph with the last risk in sight. However, his sporting achievements were unique: in 1971 he won the Norwegian football championship with Rosenborg Trondheim.
