Ski jumping: Stoch only fifth in qualifying – Kubacki victorious

Kamil Stoch is in the qualification for the last jumping of the 66th place. Four Hills Tournament did not exceed fifth place. The Pole landed at 130.0 m in difficult conditions, however, and the moderate result gives Sven Hannawald above all cause for hope.

On Saturday in Bischofshofen (from 17.00 at the LIVETICKER) Stoch can repeat Hannawald’s unique feat of winning all four touring jumps in one winter.

The best of the six remaining DSV eagles who all qualified for the final was vice world champion Andreas Wellinger (Ruhpolding) in eighth place. Richard Freitag, who had already started his trip home after his fall in Innsbruck after breakfast, was no longer at the start. The winner of the qualification was the Pole Dawid Kubacki with a flight to 136.0 m in front of the Norwegian Johann Andre Forfang (135.0).

“The second round wouldn’t be bad for me tomorrow. But seriously:”When I show my best jumps, the chamomile must also be long,” Wellinger said. Exactly one year ago, the Bavarian had set a jumping record of 144.5 m in qualifying, but at the same time it was the furthest jump in the history of the tour. I hope that I can take the good jumps from Innsbruck to the final,”said the 22-year-old.

Behind Wellinger (130.0), Markus Eisenbichler (Siegsdorf/131.0), sixth in the overall standings, also convinced with the ninth place. Karl Geiger (Oberstdorf/17th), Stephan Leyhe (Willingen/26th) on his 26th birthday. Pius Paschke (Kiefersfelden/44th) and Constantin Schmid (Oberaudorf/33rd) will also be there on Saturday:”All six of them can still achieve their best personal tour result. That’s our goal,”said national coach Werner Schuster.

However, there is hardly any doubt about Stoch’s tour victory. Wellinger, who finishes second with a gap of 64.5 points or 36 metres behind, sees it that way:”There’s nothing more to be done. Something bad has to happen, and we don’t want Kamil to do that,”said the Bavarian. Already second place was a surprise for him:”I looked stupid myself when I saw this.”
