NBA: Hawks go down in Portland – inglorious record for the Heat

Dennis Schröder and the Atlanta Hawks are holding up well for a half time, but then they have to admit defeat to the strong offense of the Trail Blazers. The Miami Heat meanwhile hold three franchise records, but still have to fear for victory for a long time. The Sixers teach the pistons a lesson, Washington almost gave them a victory and the Lakers lose again on Lonzo Ball’s comeback.

Teaching lesson for the pistons! Right from the start, the guests didn’t stand a chance against Philadelphia – more precisely, against Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. The star duo of the Sixers dominated the opponent’s zone at will, and just before the end of the first half, they had a total of 26 points on their account – the same as the entire Pistons team!

The advantage of the Sixers was already at this point in time almost uncatchable, at the latest after Philly got 36 points in front in the third round, the fair had been read. In the past, the young Sixers team used to give some large tours out of hand. However, the lead over Detroit was relatively easy to maintain over the full 48 minutes.

“I think we’re heading in the right direction,” said Head Coach Brett Brown, who was justifiably satisfied with his team,”Even though I thought we’d lost the game, I felt that Philadelphia had passed through this phase. It was the fourth consecutive victory against Detroit.

Of course, the Sixers fans had it above all Embiid (23 points, 9 rebounds) and Simmons (19 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds). In addition, J. J. J. controlled Redick scored 21 points, while no player on the opposing side scored more than 14 points:”We didn’t even have two good minutes in a row,”was the conclusion of Stan van Gundy, the more than attended pistons coach.

Defense wins championships – and sometimes regular seasonal matches at the beginning of November. The Timberwolves and Celtics fought over the entire game with their opponent’s defence, but in the end the hosts kept the upper hand and clinched their fifth consecutive victory.

“We played a really good defense today,”said Terry Rozier,”which gave us the last push today,” with over three quarters of the game being a balanced defensive battle with a total of 14 lead changes. Boston scuttled just 6 of the 36 downtown attempts (16.7 percent) and the Timberwolves came out on top of 36.8 percent of the field.

Only at the beginning of the final section did Boston set off with a 10:2 run. In the middle of the passage, the Celts were in front with 12 points. That was the decision. An important factor for the success was Celtics Bank. The reserveists decided the duel of the banks with 42:20 more than clear for themselves.

Rozier with 14 points and 9 rebounds as well as Marcus Smart (18) showed strong performances. Kyrie Irving also sniffed a triple double (16 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists). The good team performance enabled Boston to equalize the strong performance of Karl-Anthony Towns. With 25 points and 23 rebounds, the Big Man played a strong double-double, but was left relatively alone by his team-mates. Jimmy Butler scored 14 points, but had serious problems with the throw (3/12 FG).

To establish two new franchise records in an overtime thriller should normally lead to laughing faces on the part of the winner. However, this was not the case with the Heat. Miami pulled 42 times from downtown that night – the first franchise record – but placed 30 of them on the ring. Also a franchise record, albeit of the inglorious sort.

Wayne Ellington set the next franchise record with his 16 attempts (6 goals), but the decisive factor in the final phase was other things than the distance throw. Ellington grabbed an important loose-ball towards the end of the regular season, and a short time later James Johnson, despite a used evening (4 points, 0/7 FG) in overtime, forced the probably decisive turnaround of the guests.

“That’s what our team is all about,”said Ellington afterwards, explaining the Hustle Plays:”To be successful, we have to make such placements, throw ourselves on the floor and get dirty. The ball loss of the Knicks made it possible to finish the game with a 7:2 run and the winning free-throw.

Ellington was the top scorer of his team with 24 points, otherwise Goran Dragic contributed 19 points and Josh Richardson scored 18 points. On the Knicks side, Courtney Lee also scored 24 points, while Kristaps Porzingis scored 15 points (5/14 FG) and 7 rebounds.
