Ski alpin: Shiffrin wins again, Rebensburg loses World Cup lead

Ski racer Viktoria Rebensburg (Kreuth) failed to start the Olympic year. In the giant slalom in Maribor, Slovenia, the 2010 Olympic champion disappointed with an eleventh place and had to give up her lead in the World Cup standings to the victorious Mikaela Shiffrin (USA). The 22-year-old is now in first place in all disciplines.

Shiffrin won in drizzling rain on a soft track ahead of Tessa Worley (France/+0.31 seconds) and Sofia Goggia (Italy/+0.91) to celebrate her 39th birthday. Victory in the World Cup and eighth this season. In the Giant Slalom World Cup she is 63 points ahead of third-placed Rebensburg, with Worley trailing Shiffrin 55 points in between.

Jessica Hilzinger (Oberstdorf) and Katrin Hirtl-Stantl-Stanggaßinger (Königssee) missed the final.
