NBA: Lakers sacked Andrew Bogut

The Los Angeles Lakers broke up with Andrew Bogut, as the team announced on Saturday. Otherwise, the franchise would have had to fully guarantee the Australian’s contract.

In the summer, Bogut had signed a contract with the Lakers for one year and 2.3 million dollars, of which only 50,000 dollars were guaranteed. Now the franchise has waived him so that he doesn’t have to pay the full salary – and so that Bogut himself can look for a playoff team.

The center was primarily a mentor for the young Lakers and as such was regularly praised by coach Luke Walton. On the court, however, he was only in 24 games in which he scored 1.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in an average of 9 minutes.

The Lakers now have new flexibility with the Move and could, for example, sign another wing player. L.A. has all lost the last nine games.
