NFL: Extending Panthers with Head Coach Ron Rivera

The Carolina Panthers provide planning security before the start of their play-off season: Carolina extended the time ahead of schedule on Saturday with head coach Ron Rivera.

This was announced by the team before the postseason start on Saturday. According to NFL network insider Ian Rapoport, this is a two-year contract worth a total of $15.5 million. Rivera is thus bound to the Panthers up to and including 2020.

“This is a great place with great support from the owners and the people who work within the organization. And I really appreciate the support of our fans. That’s a big reason why I want to keep going here,”Rivera said in a statement. The team has the opportunity to “achieve more. We can continue this success.”

It is an important step for the Panthers – while the franchise is heading for an uncertain future: owner Jerry Richardson recently announced that he wants to sell the team. Tina Becker has taken over temporarily, and in this temporary position she has now for the first time left her mark on the Panthers.
