Austria’s figurehead Vanessa Herzog, Austria’s figurehead for speed skating, completed the individual distance championship in Kolomna (RUS) perfectly on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Tyrolean won bronze in the mass start after gold over 500 m and silver over 1,000 m in the mass start behind the Italians Francesca Lollobrigida and Francesca Bettrone and completed her medal set in the Olympic season.

“This was an all outstanding European championship”, Herzog was pleased in the speed skating arena of Kolomna. Herzog had joined the Italians in the exciting competition from the very beginning.

“You have beaten up a very high tempo. In the first few laps, I thought to myself that if they continue like this, I’m without a chance today,”said the 22-year-old. After that, however, the speed was reduced.
