Ice hockey: U20 World Championship: NHL rookie Lias Andersson throws silver medal into the audience

Swedish national under-20 hockey player Lias Andersson threw his silver medal into the audience after losing 3-1 to Canada in the World Cup final.

The captain of the junior team picked up the precious metal at the award ceremony, but tore it right off his neck and threw his medal on the spectator ranks.

“I’ve missed the title twice now. I don’t need a second silver medal,”said the NHL rookie from New York Rangers, who was the runners-up in Sweden’s U18 two years ago.

Andersson later joked about the audience, who was delighted with the medal:”He wanted it more than I did. He’s gonna give her a proper place at home.”
