NFL: Seahawks dismisses offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell

The NFL’s co-ordinator interchange game is in full swing: After the Seattle Seahawks missed their playoffs for the first time in five years, NFL insider Ian Rapoport has told the franchise to fire their long-time offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Bevell took over as coordinator of the Seahawks-Offense in 2011 and won the Super Bowl together with the team in 2013. Bevell has played a major role in the development of Russell Wilson into a franchise quarterback and, more generally, in the powerful offensive of the Seahawks in recent years.

This year, however, the attack of the Seahawks was massively inconsistent and often completely dependent on Russell Wilson alone. This was partly due to the leaked offensive line, but also due to Bevell himself, who, according to his critics, failed to integrate people like Tight End Jimmy Graham into his system in a sensible way. However, Graham was an excellent option for Wilson in the Red Zone.

A successor for Bevell has not yet been announced, but it seems likely that head coach Pete Carroll will appoint a new offensive coordinator from his own coaching staff.
