Olympics 2018: Savchenko/Massot cancel European Championship start

With regard to the longed-for Olympic victory in Pyeongchang (9. till 25. February) the German figure skating couple Aljona Savchenko/Bruno Massot (Oberstdorf) canceled their participation in the European Championships in Moscow next week.

The Vice World Champions and their trainer Alexander König had recently stated that “not all the technical refinements are running according to plan, which is why the remaining time until the Olympic Winter Games should be used for optimal preparation”, the German Skating Union (DEU) announced on Friday.

After the German Championships in December Savchenko/Massot had decided to rehearse a new short programme – the third one this season. The ambitious duo wants to increase their chances of winning the Olympic gold medal yet again.

As Savchenko had already said on Thursday when he was dressed for the games in South Korea, the European Championships in Moscow had no meaning whatsoever.
