Olympia 2018: Olympic flame arrives in Seoul

27 days before the opening of the Winter Games in Pyeongchang (9. till 25. February) the Olympic flame arrived in South Korea’s capital Seoul.

Hundreds of fans cheered for the torchbearer Hee-Jin Park. The figure skater said he was “very happy and proud”. The flame will remain in Seoul until Tuesday and will be carried 103 km through the capital.

The first day. 7500 torchbearers were selected to carry the flame on its 2,018 km long journey through the country.

It all started with a 13-year-old figure skater, although she is still too young to participate in the first winter games in South Korea.

In the presence of the German IOC President Thomas Bach, the Olympic fire in the Holy Grove of the Ancient Olympics in Greece had been lit.

Subsequently, the flame traveled over Greek soil and was carried by 505 torchbearers before arriving at the Acropolis in Athens and finally being brought to South Korea.
