Cycling: Tour Down Under 2018: Andre Greipel wins first stage ahead of Peter Sagan

Andre Greipel (35) finished 17th on the first leg of the Tour Down Under. stage victory at the start of the year.

After 145 km from Port Adelaide to Lyndoch, Team Lotto Soudal’s record winner from Rostock won the race, ahead of Caleb Ewan (Australia/Mitchelton-Scott) and three times world champion Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) from Slovakia.

Greipel, who finished the Tour 2008 and 2010 as the overall winner, took revenge on Sagan for his defeat two days earlier at the race People’s Choice Classic in Adelaide. Phil Bauhaus (Sunweb) from Bocholt finished sixth.

The Tour Down Under ends after six stages on Sunday in Adelaide. The second section leads on Wednesday over 148.6 km from Unley to Stirling.
