Ice hockey: Pellegrims leaves DEG and becomes co-trainer in Mannheim

The eagles from Mannheim put an old acquaintance at the side of their future head coach Pavel Gross in Mike Pellegrims. The Belgian, currently coach of the Dusseldorf EC and active in Mannheim together with Gross Gross three times, signed a three-year contract with the Kurpfälzern as co-trainer. It is still unclear who will inherit Pellegrims as head coach in Düsseldorf.

“Pavel approached us with the desire to work with Mike. Fortunately, we were able to fulfill this wish,”said Daniel Hopp, Managing Director of Mannheim. Last week, the crisis-ridden eagles who threaten to miss the play-offs in the DEL had engaged Gross as head coach for the coming season.

Pellegrims (49) took up his post at DEG only at the beginning of this season. The former defender worked with Gross in Wolfsburg from 2010 to 2016, and the duo led the Grizzlies twice to the DEL finals.
